Key Features
The Doepfer A-104 Quad Resonance Filter is a four-fold multi-mode filter that aims to authentically replicate the formant filter of the fabled Mixtur Trautonium. Each of the four filters employs independent level, resonance and frequency cut-off controls and is fed directly from one highly-sensitive audio input. With a wide frequency range of 5kHz to 50Hz, each filter is capable of performing multiple tasks, offering the ability to process your audio in a flexible multi-band setup.
Meticulously designed to capture the essence of the Trautonium, the Doepfer A-104's filters authentically create the signature vocal tones you'd expect. The subtle 12dB/Octave slopes each feature independent resonance controls that are tamer than most filters. Instead, the A-104's audio input is highly sensitive, offering the ability to send each filter into searing overdriven tones.

Taking inspiration from one of the world's most unique instruments, the A-104 aims to replicate the formant filter found on the Trautonium. Known for the formant and vocal sounds, the A-104 expertly captures the essence of this fabled instrument and brings it to modular format for your Eurorack synthesizer. Each of the four formant filters is comprised of independent level, resonance and frequency cut-off controls where each filter is powered by a single audio input. The shared audio input feeds each filter, whereby each channel can function in Band-pass, Low-pass or Off mode, offering flexibility across the entire frequency spectrum. This opens up new ways to process your audio in multiple bands, making it ideal to be used as a multi-band processor.
Each filter has a slope of 12dB/octave and an ultra-wide frequency range from 5kHz to 50Hz. This broad frequency range offers bias in the lower midrange and upper bass region, making it the perfect spot for creating vowel-esque sounds with a rounded and smooth timbre.
Created with an intentionally sensitive audio input, the Doepfer A-104 can run into a highly distorted territory quickly. Where typically, resonance controls would send a filter into overdrive and self-oscillation, this is not possible with the A-104 so instead, the audio input can be pushed to the limits in order to evenly distort across all four filter banks. The perfect module for percussive elements, the Doepfer A-104 can create effective wood-block sounds to give your rhythm sections more flavour in your live sets and performances.
