The Bluey limiter is a powerful compressor based upon the world-class 1176 style peak limiter. Specifically, the Blue Stripe revision of this iconic limiting amplifier. This field effect transistor - or FET - limiter sounds great on vocals due to its very fast effect time as well as the amount of sonic colour it can add to a take. Adding aggression to the overall sound is a great way to push your vocals to the front of the mix and help them really pop into focus. Whilst is sounds great on vocals, the Bluey 500 will shine on virtually any sound source, adding tonal power to both drums, guitars and a myriad of other instruments.

Revisited and revitalised

After determining that what made the original Bluey so special was the modifications to the unit. Black Lion Audio has put time and knowledge into replicating the power and unique quality of this FET limiter. This 1176-style limiter is a meticulous revitalisation of the blue-striped beast, so everyone can experience its sonic character in their own studio.

With a vintage-inspired PCB layout with 1 percent resistors and polyester capacitors, the Bluey 500 looks and feels like the console version in a compact 500-series module. The Bluey 500 also utilises dual Cinemagic transformers, faithfully creating the input/output path with the original UTC input transformer and Reichenbach output transformer. Simply put, the Bluey 500 is a must-have for any audio engineer's studio setup.
